NHS Prescription Changes
Changes to the management of repeat prescriptions by community pharmacies.
South Lincolnshire CCG and South West Lincolnshire CCG are making changes to repeat ordering of prescriptions by community pharmacies. Many patients manage their own repeat prescriptions by requesting items online, or by handing paper copies with of their prescription with the items they need to their GP. However, there are some patients who have their prescription managed by a community pharmacy, and we are making changes that will affect these patients.
As of the 1 February community pharmacies will no longer be able to manage repeat prescriptions on behalf of patients, unless their GP practice has identified the patient as having a vulnerability or condition that requires the continuation of this service out of necessity. This means that many patients will now need to manage their own repeat prescription by requesting items directly from their GP practice two to three days in advance of needing them (the time taken to process a prescription).
The reason we are making this change is to reduce the amount of waste medicines handed in every year to GP practices, community pharmacies, or stored, sometimes excessively, at home. There are a number of reasons medicines waste occurs, including where items have been ordered and dispensed that were not required, because some medicines are only prescribed for occasional use or as needed. This is why it is important patients order their own repeat prescriptions wherever possible.
By targeting medicines waste we are able to reduce stockpiling of medicines, and improve patient safety by reducing the need to store and monitor the life of medicines dispensed to patients. This will also help to reduce the cost of medicines returned to us, or which remains unused at home, meaning we can make best use of our resources.

NHS Health Checks & 75 years & over Health Checks
Patients aged forty to seventy-four are entitled to a free NHS Health Check.
Patients aged 75 years and over will not be offered a NHS Health Check, however these patients are entitled to a practice led health check if they wish to receive one.

Cytology Turnaround Time (TAT)
Sustained high level demand on the service this year has resulted in an increased turnaround time for cytology test results.
We have been informed that it may now take 6 weeks for women to receive their result letter. (Updated August 2017)

Named Accountable GP
As a part of a new contractual requirement for 2015-2016, all patients registered at a GP practice are to be allocated a named accountable GP.
What does accountable mean?
The new contract requires the named accountable GP to be responsible for the co-ordination of all appropriate services required under the contract and ensure they are delivered to each of those patients where required, on the patients behalf. However, this does not mean that they will be the only GP or clinician who will provide care.
Will GP practices write to patients to inform them of their named GP?
No. However, practices are required to inform patients of their named GP at the next appropriate interaction.
Can patients choose their own named GP?
In the first instance, patients will simply be allocated a named GP. However, if a patient requests a particular GP, reasonable effort will be made to accommodate their preference.
Do patients have to see their named GP when they book an appointment?
No. Patients can and should feel free to choose to see any GP or nurse in the practice in line with current arrangements. However, if their preferred choice of GP is not available, an alternative will be offered.
All patients registered at Sleaford Medical Group have been allocated a named accountable GP.
Urgent Care Unit Information
From Saturday 6th June 2016 the Urgent Care Unit operating from the Sleaford Medical Group will close at 6:00pm at weekends and bank holidays due to patient footfall being exceptionally low after this time.
During the first six months the unit has treated over 3,500 patients which has ultimately resulted in less people attending local accident and emergency departments. We would like to thank everyone who has used the services offered for all their positive feedback.
The services continue to be provided to patients whether or not they are registered with a GP, and will provide care for those not living in Sleaford or the surrounding area. The unit offers a walk-in service and will continue to care for patients attending with both minor illnesses and injuries. Patients who cannot be treated will be referred appropriately.
Access & Parking
There are 3 allocated car parking spaces for disabled patients, a fully equipped disabled toilet located near the Treatment Room, and a wheelchair is available if needed. Please contact a member of staff if you require assistance. Please do NOT use the disabled parking spaces unless appropriate.

Online Appointment Booking
You can now book appointments online. You will need to register for our "SystmOnline" system which will enable you to order repeat prescriptions and make appointments online. Please contact reception for details on how to register (ID Required). There will be a limited number of appointments available online, so if you cannot book what you need please also try ringing through to reception.
Online Prescription Ordering
Did you know you can now order your repeat prescriptions online? You will need to register (ID Required) to use this system but once you are set up you can order your repeats any time of day 365 days a year. No need to phone and have to wait in a queue. No need to have to make time to make a phone call if you are working. Please contact reception for details on how to register.
